Beach Tennis Scoring System Explained!
Welcome to Beach Tennis Depot! If you're new to beach tennis or just need a refresher on how the game is scored, you've come to the right place. Here’s a breakdown based on the latest ITF Beach Tennis Rules 2024:
Match Structure
Beach tennis matches are typically played as best of 3 sets. To secure a win, a player or team needs to win 2 sets. Before any match begins, the format—whether best of 3 sets or alternative—must be decided and announced.
Scoring Within a Set
Each set follows a straightforward scoring method called the "Tie-break Set" method:
- Games to Win a Set: The first player or team to win 6 games wins the set, provided they lead by at least 2 games over their opponents. If the score reaches 6 games all, a tie-break game is played.
- Tie-break Game: If the set score reaches 1 set all, a super tie-break is played to decide the match. The first player or team to reach 10 points with a 2-point lead wins the super tie-break and the match.
Game Scoring
Within each game, the server announces the score before serving each point:
-
Standard Game:
- No points scored: "Love" or "0"
- First point won: "15"
- Second point won: "30"
- Third point won: "40"
- Fourth point won: "Game"
If both teams score 3 points each (called "Deuce"), a deciding point is played. The team winning this point wins the game.
-
Tie-break Game: Points are counted as "0", "1", "2", etc. The first player or team to reach 7 points with a 2-point lead wins the game and the set. If needed, the tie-break continues until this margin is achieved.
In doubles, service rotation remains consistent throughout each set and tie-break.
Understanding these scoring rules will enhance your enjoyment and engagement with beach tennis. Whether you're competing or spectating, knowing the score adds to the thrill of the game. Stay tuned to Beach Tennis Depot for more insights and updates on everything beach tennis!
